JC’s Top Rope Report: A Look At This Week’s WWE News

Rather than my normal column on one specific piece of wrestling, I decided to take a look at all the on goings that have taken place in the WWE in the last week. There have been some newsworthy topics to talk about, so lets get right to it.

Chris Jericho Suspended 30 Days for Kicking Brazil Flag
This story is a little over a week old but I never really touched on it. Chris Jericho was suspended after kicking the Brazil flag on a recent tour of South America last weekend. Nobody knew the incident was illegal, so there really is no one to blame here. It is a traditional heel move by a wrestler so you can’t fault Jericho. There were apparently police officers waiting to arrest Jericho after the match. I understand that each country has its own set of laws, but they do know that the WWE is only entertainment right? Jericho wasn’t trying to make a political statement. It sucks that Jericho is gone now, especially with the way the roster is, but I understand why the WWE suspended Jericho from a P.R. standpoint. Especially with Linda McMahon running for Senate. We still don’t exactly know when Jericho is leaving. I believe Jericho is advertised for live events through SummerSlam. That would be a good exit for him on the second biggest PPV of the year.

Smackdown Hits w/ Martin 6/1

-Sorry about the month off in between posts but life keeps you busy.  I picked a good night to come back with the WWE champ defending his title on Smackdown.

-I love that AJ’s part in the opening title is her smiling and then manically crying.

-Sheamus gets pops.

-Sheamus threatened  the mug!

-Oh David Otunga, is bad puns the best you could do.

-I am liking the Sheamus hothead character.

-Sin Cara returns with new tights and a new entrance but the same old lights.

-And a new finisher. Is this the same Sin Cara?

-Josh Matthews is talking an awful lot tonight. Not that I’m complaining.

-Liking Damien Sandow’s character and his old style move set. Night Night Ezekiel Jackson. The old Nexus guys are taking a beating tonight.

-Already bored with Ryback. I enjoy the youth initiative but let’s move it along.

-Dolph Ziggler vs Sheamus.  Here’s hoping this isn’t another squash match for Ziggler.

-X-Factor from the top rope!

-The loss for Ziggler as I thought but he gave Sheamus a good match as he always does. I hope this is all leading to a new program for Dolph

-Despite their attempts to bury him, Zack Ryder still gets a pop.

-Enjoying what I’ve seen from Titus O’Neal & Darren Young, who now want to be known as Prime Time Players. I approve, Deion Sanders might have a problem.

-So a quick win for Santino and Ryder? What does that get you?

-I see you just needed more fodder for The Big Show. Poor Zack Ryder. Poor Santino

-I get the Big Show stuff but it just brings the show to a halt.

-AJ! You’re so cute and crazy!

-Daniel Bryan picking on unstable girls? Now that’s a heel move!

-Michael Cole just made me laugh by saying Christian looks like a conductor. Even a broken watch is right twice a day.

-Tyson Kidd has new tights. Where is his push?

-Nice transition into Cody Rhodes’ finisher. Kidd with the loss.

-Now we see if CM Punk truly is the best in the world. Can he pull a good match out of Kane.

-Good lesson to teach kids Booker T. Don’t fight people who are wrong ’cause you’ll get punished.

-Nice Chokeslam counter by Punk.

-Bryan interferes and Kane stands triumphant? Odd.

-Well that ruins the Championship match at No Way Out.

- It’s the “first” show of a “new” era. Let’s see how it goes!

- Already this show looks better being live. I feel like they used a filter for the tapings or just got better cameras for the live shows.

- Did Mike Tenay just say that Sting is focusing on being a wrestler? That should not even be an option.

- It’s a small thing but the champions having their title belts with them makes a difference. It shows they are proud of them and are the best in the company, not just “props”.

JC’s Top Rope Report: The RAW Truth Review for 5.28.12

Happy Memorial Day to all my American readers. Lets see just how patriotic this RAW and Review will be.

Fi Fy Fo!
After an unnecessarily long recap of the Big Show/John Cena stuff from last week, Big Show came out. Big Show said he was happy to do his job. He said he doesn’t have to smile and pander anymore because he has an iron clad contract. Show said he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Show said there is no one in his league at all. Show complained about Brodus Clay coming out and having fun minutes after he was on his knees begging for a job. He specifically called out Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, who he thought were his friends. He called everyone shallow and phony. But Show said John Cena disappointed him the most. Show thought Cena was going to fight and stand up for Show’s job, but instead Cena made jokes. Show said he hurt Cena last week, and what he does at No Way Out will be the same. Show said No Way Out will be the most embarrassing loss of his career. And that puts a smile on his face.

- Happy Memorial Day, all. Hope you had a great day with your friends and family.

- Why does every heel have to wear a suit now? I know it began with the Horsemen and Bockwinkel but come on, fellas, let’s get a little creative now.

- Wow that was a long promo for barely any information.

- Punk vs Bryan for free? Should be a good tease for their No Way Out rematch (I assume).

- I’m actually on vacation this week and yet here I am covering Impact. How this show goes depends on whether or not I cover SmackDown as well.

- Very intriguing opening way to open the show.

- Really like the improve, “real” feeling to this segment.

- New opening for this new concept was stellar. Too bad they’re still in the same looking studio.

JC’s Top Rope Report: What I Want to See From 3 Hour RAWs

Posted by justincz on May 26, 2012
Posted in: Contributing Columns, Editorials. Tagged: 3 Hour RAW, C.M. Punk, John Cena, John Laurinaitis, Tag Team Wrestling, WWE. Leave a Comment

So, in case you guys didn’t here, RAW is moving to three hours starting with their 1,000th episode. And in case you didn’t see my small write up in my Over the Limit Preview, I think having a 3 hour RAW every week will be bad for the long run. The WWE is having enough problems putting together two hour RAWs recently, why should I have any faith in them to put together a good three hour RAW every week? Plus, the WWE’s most recent three hour RAWs don’t exactly have the greatest track record. Outside of the Old School RAW at the end of 2010, no three hour RAW has been good from beginning to end. We did get the Nexus invasion in the summer of 2010, but that came at the tail end of an absolutely abysmal show.

JC’s Top Rope Report: The RAW Truth Review for 5.21.12

YELL! ANGRY WORDS! AHHHH!!!
They recapped last night’s AMAZING John Cena/John Laurinaitis match with still photos of the match and children and women in horror.

John Cena came out looking pissed. Cena said he can’t move on from last night and asked what the hell happened. Cena couldn’t believe John Laurinaitis beat him. He called Laurinaitis a bully and he was finally getting what came to him at Over the Limit. Then Big Show knocked Cena out cold. Cena isn’t happy with Big Show selling out. Cena said anyone would have hired Big Show back, but instead Show decided to sell out. Cena continued to yell and complain.

Quick Quips: Raw 5.21.12

- Over The Limit last night was good, even though the main event ruined the show for a lot of people. Go out of your way to watch the CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan match though. The rematch is going to be great.

- With the Owen Hart accident and Benoit tragedy in their history, how can Jerry Lawler say last night was the darkest day in the history of the company?

- I’d love for someone to do the math and tell me how many times John Cena and Big Show have feuded in their careers.

- “This past Saturday”? This angle would have worked better if Johnny made the deal with the Big Show in the ring right before Show was going to chokeslam him.
