Ryback may be good for the ratings (and to keep CM Punk’s heel turn moving along) but what happens when the calendar turns to 2013? Where will Ryback land on the card, if at all, once The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, John Cena, CM Punk and possibly Triple H begin the road to WrestleMania?
The “‘Feed Me More’ Revolution” has peaked earlier than Mark Paul Gosselaar’s career. Much like the former Zach Morris, Ryback may not be seen much after his first major role. Survivor Series is almost upon us and if CM Punk makes it out with the title, there is only one pay-per-view left for Ryback to become a major player before the most exciting months of the WWE’s year.
Here are a few scenarios for the Ryback fans heading into the new year. First one: the greatest way to keep Ryback relevant but not in the title picture… Brock Lesnar. Having a Ryback-Lesnar feud ending with Ryback going over on Brock at WrestleMania does wonders for the former NXT star. Sounds good right? Until Vince lures Brock into another big money deal now that Linda is done losing money.
Scenario number two: Ryback doesn’t win at Survivor Series or at TLC in December, assuming he will get another chance. Ryback enters the Royal Rumble and either wins or ends in the final few Superstars leading into a feud with a well known name, maybe the Dead Man. Even a loss to the Undertaker and his streak or to a CM Punk/Sheamus/Dolph Ziggler/Randy Orton will only help his career; at least for the time being.
The last scenario that seems not only possible but maybe certain as it has happened to many great talents throughout the history of the WWE, nothing comes from any of this and Ryback finds himself in the middle of the card battling for a position in any angle just to get some TV time. The argument can be made that there can only be so many stories happening at any given time and while that may be true to some degree it doesn’t mean that top talent should have to only work in house shows and stick to the catering area during Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-views. I’m not really convinced with the Ryback character, but hey even the Miz grew on me. There are plenty of guys in the back lost in Vince McMahon-translation, if you will. Will Ryback break out and become a major draw for the WWE for years to come or will be just another face for failed gimmicks.
The best scenario for Ryback after the WrestleMania smoke clears away; he ends up on SmackDown chasing Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Title once he cashes in. For Ryback’s sake, I hope he isn’t the next Vince McMahon handpicked man just like Drew McIntyre.
